During the weekend from April 15 to April 17 2011, 434 CAP members and cadets descended on Walt Disney World for the weekend, however primary draw was not Mickey Mouse. Instead, the focus was on the “Preparing for the Future”, the theme of the 2011 Florida Wing conference held at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort. Held every year, the conference includes networking opportunities, workshops, and other opportunities for CAP members. Gainesville Composite Squadron was represented by both cadets and senior members.

A banquet and award ceremony was held on Saturday night, during which many awards were, including the awarding of the Unit Citation Award to Florida Wing. “This is yours” were the words stated by out-going Wing Commander Col. Christian Moersch upon accepting the award, which recognized every member present in the Florida Wing between February 2008 and April 2011 and allows each to wear the Unit Citation ribbon. A change-of-command ceremony was conducted during which Col. Mike Cook took command of the Florida Wing.
